Penny’s Light Seminar“ by Dr. Penny Hatziefstratiou Michelinaki, organises the third international Drawing Contest on the topic of light & lighting. This is an effort to make children realise the importance and use of light in our life. It is a celebration for the International Day of Light by UNESCO (16 May).

Please be informed that this Contest is now included in the official site of The International Day of Light www.lightday.org (Events- Greece).

Topic

The topic is “Light as an energy source“.

Light is a renewable source of energy, which is replenished naturally. Nowadays, it plays an important role in meeting our needs, due to the global energy crisis and climate changes. Children are asked to draw light as a source of energy. For example, they can capture the uses of sunlight as a source of energy (heating, cooling, lighting, production of electricity etc). Alternatively, they can show the opportunities that light can offer as a source of energy (education, equality, peace etc), thus expressing the vision of UNESCO.

Step 1 – Drawing

Think about the importance and the role of light as an energy source. Make a drawing on a white A4 paper (landscape). Each drawing must be the result of individual work. Children can use any drawing material they like (such a pencils or markers). They can also use collage, as long as this is integrated in the drawing, being a part of it, and not an independent piece of art.

Step 2 – Photo

Take a photo of your child’s drawing. Make sure it is well lit, without dark points or shadows. You must only include the drawing in the photo with no surroundings. Save as the photo with the child’s surname- name and year of birth.

Step 3 – Upload your photo

Send the photo together with the requested information through the submission form that you can find here. Submissions are allowed between January 2023 and May 1, 2023.
